Korakuen is the name of garden in the main residence of Mito Tokugawa Family, one of three branches of Tokugawa Shogun Family.
Most of the former site of the residence of Mito Tokugawa Family was requisitioned by the Japanese army and a part of the site was redeveloped as the first baseball stadium for professional baseball teams in 1937. The stadium was replaced by Tokyo Dome Stadium in 1988.
Korakuen Amusement Park was built on the former site of the Japanese army in 1958. It has been developed into an amusement center comprising attractions, shops, restaurants and a hot spring.
A children’s park is located beside Korakuen Station. On the west of the park is the Tokyo Metropolitan Fallen Soldiers Cemetery.
