Suehirocho Station is located at the north end of Akihabara Electric Town. Every Sunday the main street is closed to vehicles and becomes a vehicle-free promenade.
Between the main street and the west upland on which neat apartment buildings and Yushima-tenjin shrine are located, is an old, small and quiet residential area.
Due to aging of residents and decrease in children, the junior high school in this area was closed and renovated to an art center where galleries, studios, creative offices, shops and a cafe are located.
Kanda-myojin shrine was established in 730 in Otemachi area and moved to the current site in 1616 due to the expansion of Edo Castle. The main building was rebuilt by reinforced concreate after the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 and other buildings were destroyed by air raids and rebuilt after the WWII. Kanda festival held at Kanda-myojin shrine and surrounding area every two years since 17th century is one of the three major Shinto festivals of Tokyo.
