Azuma-dori (East Avenue) is an avenue stretching from Ikebukuro station area to Zoshigaya Cemetery. Along the street are the largest bookstore in Tokyo, one of the top music colleges, drama theaters, restaurants, bars, shops, apartments, temples, shrines, etc.
Ikebukuro is known as a town of animation enthusiasts. Animate is the largest anime shop in Tokyo, crowded with anime otaku and cosplayers.
In the last 15 years, many high-rise apartment buildings were built in East Ikebukuro area. Below is a photo of a park developed on the site where the Tokyo branch of Mint was located until 2016.
Beside the redeveloped area, an Old-fashioned residential area remains as it was decades ago.
