Chidori-ga-fuchi is a part of inner moat of the Edo Castle between Kudanshita and Hanzomon, which is nationally famous for its cherry blossoms.
Hanzomon is the west gate of Edo Castle facing the Koshu Kaido, one of the main five routs in the Edo period continuing to Suwa in Nagano prefecture to connect with the Nakasendo (Nakasendo is also one of the five main routs connecting Edo and Kyoto). Below is a photo of Koshu Kaido taken in front of Hanzomon.
On the north of Hanzomon, the British Embassy occupies the best and largest site beside the inner moat of the Imperial Palace, which has been leased to the UK since 1872.
On the south of Hanzomon, the National Theater for traditional Japanese theatrical plays (including Noh and Kabuki) and the Supreme Court of Japan are located side by side beside the inner moat of the Imperial Palace.
