Jizodori Shopping Street is an old nostalgic shopping street for daily life of local people.
On the west of the station was the second house of Hosokawa Family, the feudal lord of Kumamoto Domain, in the Edo period. Higo Hosokawa Garden was the garden of the house. (The dormitory appearing in the novel Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami is located next to the garden on the former site of the second house.)
On the top of the small hill on the north-west is Tokyo Cathedral, the head church of Roman Catholic in Japan, designed by Kenzo Tange and built in 1964.
Kohinata is a quiet residential area on the north hill.
