10 Kanda／神田

Kanda was the name of one of the original 15 wards of Tokyo City established in 1878 after the Meiji Restoration.  There were many towns around Kanda station which were named after their characters acquired in the Edo period, such as Kanda Kaji-cho (Blacksmith Town), Kanda Nabe-cho (Cooking Pot Town), Kanda Deku-cho (Carpenters Town), Kanda Rousoku-cho (Candle Town), Kanda Konya-cho (Dyer Town), Norimono-cho (Vehicle Town), Kanda Nushi-cho (Lacquer Town), etc.  While we can hardly trace characters of the towns, some of their names remain even today.  Below is a photo of Kanda station located at Kanda Kaji-cho (Blacksmith Town) and former Kanda Nabe-cho (Cooking Pot Town).　　You can find a small but one of the best and oldest fugu (puffer fish) restaurants in Tokyo.
