Akamon (Red Gate) is a gate of the Hongo campus of the University of Tokyo, which was originally built as a gate of the main residence of Kaga Maeda Domain in 1827. It is a symbol of the university and many tourists visit the gate.

Hongo-sanchome is the junction of Kasuga Avenue and Hongo Avenue. Along Kasuga Avenue remain the old buildings that were built around 1930 after the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923.

There are office buildings and residential apartment buildings around the station. The area was a residential area for Shogunate retainers in the Edo period. The camphor tree was born before the Edo period and is about 600 years old.
