Shinjuku-sanchome is the intersection of Meiji Avenue and Shinjuku Avenue. It is the center of Shinjuku entertainment district.
100 meters south of Shinjuku-sanchome intersection is the intersection of Koshu Road (one of the five major roads in Edo period) and Meiji Avenue. The left building is Shinjuku High School, where Ryuichi Sakamoto enjoyed his high school life in 1960s.
Many bars and restaurants are located on the northeast side of Shinjuku-sanchome intersection. Shinjuku Suehirotei, a rakugo (Japanese traditional comic story telling) theater established in 1897, is among them.
200 meters east of Shinjuku-sanchome station is Shinjuku 2-chome area, the largest gay town in Japan.
