Takebashi Station is located beside the Imperial Palace, former Edo Castle.
The main building of Edo Castle was destroyed by the Great Fire of Meireki in 1657. Only the stone arrangements of its foundation remain today.
Takebashi is a bridge crossing the inner moat of Edo Castle. The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo is located beside the bridge.
The University of Tokyo was established in 1877 near Takebashi Station. After the university moved to Hongo, Gakushikaikan building was constructed in 1928 for alumni association of seven major national universities. The building is still used for the purpose, though its restaurants and other facilities opened to the public after the requisition by GHQ until 1956. Academic institutes including Hitotsubashi University and National Institute of Informatics and schools and publishers are located around Gakushikaikan building.
