Nezu Shrine had a long history even before it moved to the current location and the extant main buildings and gates were built in 1706. Soseki Natsume, Ogai Mori and other famous novelists lived in this area and this shrine appease in some of their novels. Nezu shrine is also known for its azalea festival in April-May.
You can find small private bars and restaurants in a back alley of Nezu area.
Number of up-to-date chic (but somewhat discreet and inconspicuous) shops in Nezu area has been increasing in these years. This shop is run by a top boulangerie and a top pâtissier in Japan.
Nezu is sandwiched by the west highland where the University of Tokyo is located and the east highland where many old temples are located. Slopes to Nezu area have an atmosphere of Edo/Meiji periods.
